GHOST TOWN CAFE STAFF AWOL

I just got off the phone with Lina at the Ghost Town Cafe to give her the address to this blog so she could post it in the newsletter and get some bloggers for me. Lina was real busy at the time as nobody showed up for work today and it was just Peter and herself at the cafe. Lina is a very unique person and has enriched my life in so many ways. There is never a boring moment when she is around. Lina is married to Peter and he is from England. They are a good match for opposites attract.I am going to call Lina again this afternoon and see what plans they have for New Year's Eve. I wish mine was going to be in Terlingua at the Boat House but, not this year. :(

GHOST TOWN GALA 2007

This time last year I was on a south bound train headed to Terlingua Ghost Town. Now I must admit Terlingua and the ghost town residents made a lasting impression on me. I was on Christmas break from my senior year at the University of Oklahoma, taking an online intersession class, and going to visit my two older sisters and brother-in-law who had relocated to Terlingua and opened The Ghost Town Cafe. Little did I know I would havea working vacation, as I waited on tables at the cafe daily but, it was an unforgetful experience as I met soooo many wonderful people. I did manage to make it to the front porch(a few times), The Boat House (Many Times) Starlight and La Kiva. My family (Lina, Peter and Ramona) took me the the Starlight for New Years Eve and we had a pretty good time except my family goes to bed with the chickens and were ready to turn in before midnight so we went back to the Ghost Town Cafe and they all crashed out and I went to the Boat House and rang in the New year with all the local's ( and that includes the k9's too)that were at the watering hole that evening. I met a fella that evening named Wade who invited me to drink some homemade catus wine I think it is called SOTO but I passed on that and stuck with the store bought stuff (LOL)! I surivved the party and made my way all of 1/4 mile back to the cafe safely. I must say the one of the brighest points in my visit was meeting Blair Pittman. He is awesome! Blair was so wonderfulto me during my visit, he took my sister Lina and I on a tour of the Big Bend National Park and we had lunch at the lodge. Blair is full of personal stories and historic information on the people and places around there I could just spend a lifetime listening to him. I hope to get some response from the Ghost Town on this blog as I am planning my return trip this late spring/early summer. Until next time, VIVA TERLINGUA!
